Pre-packed meal kits – A successful food concept

June 17, 2014 by Kalle Leave a Comment

Matkasseguiden Matkasseguiden

Welcome home! Your dinner is waiting for you! Well, at least it’s on your doorstep ready to be made … by you.

In Sweden there is a growing demand for pre-packaged meal kits delivered to your door. The concept has been around for almost ten years, and since then, lots of companies have entered the industry, some specialising their pre-packaged dinner kits to certain categories of eaters such as vegetarians or gluten-free.

This is where Matkasseguiden comes handy. Matkasseguiden has launched a website that helps consumers to easily compare different companies and their dinner kit offers. This service is really useful in a country where people give more and more importance to what they are eating themselves and feeding their families.

At first, people were sceptical about buying groceries like vegetables and fruits online. They wanted to see the products themselves before buying. Today the online food market, which pre-packaged dinners are part of, is doing well in Sweden. One of the main reasons for this great success is that the people who have grown up with the Internet around and online shopping has become more accessible, safe and common. Not surprising in a country where there are more computers than people in each household and 60 % of three year old children have already used the Internet.

There is definitely a need for comparison sites like Matkasseguiden for Swedish consumers as more companies enter the pre-packaged meal kits business.

“Matkasse” is the Swedish word for grocery bag, in this case meaning a pre-packed grocery bag containing ingredients and recipes for dinner meals.
